Job Title: SQL Server DBA
Job Description: Provides all aspects of supporting and maintaining the stability of the application system environments.
Manages and maintains all production and non-production Windows SQL Server 2000 and 2005 databases on which the databases are hosted.
Co-maintain the application servers which include Microsoft Windows, SQL, IIS amongst others.
Recommend and implement best practices and policy for SQL Server architecture.
Builds and maintains SQL replication topologies.
Frequent interaction with in-house application team on troubleshooting issues / recommending solutions in regards to MS SQL and databases.
Provides interaction with in-house application team members when architecting new solutions involving SQL.
Optimizes database access and re-allocates database resources for optimum configuration and performance. Understands the methodologies and technologies that determine the flow of data within and between the various business systems and databases.
Responsible for the identification and resolution of information flow and content issues.
Monitors application servers and makes necessary changes to optimize their performance.
Installs and upgrades application server hardware and software as necessary.
Performs security checks on the applications, databases and servers.
Assists with the deployment of new code releases for our custom application and website environments.
Sets application client connectivity configuration standards Assists in the maintenance of the application user accounts; i.e. creations, changes, deletions, etc.
Sets client computer standards for access to the applications.
Assists in providing a stable backup structure for the servers databases
Documents the application server’s configuration, connectivity, function, reboot requirements, etc.
Documents each standard client configuration within the application system environment.
Assists in troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose application and server related problems.
Provides database and application users with tier 3 network support for client connectivity.
Serves as backup to other IT infrastructure staff members.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary to include some Sybase OJT for backing up other office personnel
Required Skills: BS degree in Information Systems or related field with 6+ years of experience in computer information systems and LAN management MCDBA certification or at least four years of in-depth experience administering and supporting Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and/or Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft operating systems such as Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 Server.
In-depth knowledge of Windows NT domain and Windows 2000 Active Directory
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005
Knowledge of warehouse implementations
Using Business Objects would be a plus
Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange 2003 would be a plus
Knowledge of multiple enterprise backup solutions would be a plus
Experience in project management, documentation and work flows
Experience in network protocols / technologies such as DNS, WINS and TCP/IP
Experience with other network operation systems would be a plus, i.e.
Unix, Linux, NetWare, etc.
Ancillary Skills: Desire to learn new technologies
Ability to deliver quality deliverables against specified timelines Good verbal and written communications skills Ability to lift and move computer equipment weighing up to 50 lbs .
Working knowledge or experience with Great Plains
Certifications: Microsoft Certifications Required. Sybase would be a plus and is government capable
